Australia Invites EOIs for Migration Agent Courses Ahead of IMMI 18/003 Expiry — Here’s What You Need to Know

Big news for anyone planning to become an Australian Migration Agent!
The Australian Government has officially called for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from universities and higher education providers to submit updated migration agent courses — ahead of the IMMI 18/003 legislative instrument expiring on 1 April 2026.

.

📌 What’s Happening?

The Department of Home Affairs wants to refresh and upgrade educational standards for all future registered migration agents in Australia.
This move comes because Migration Instrument IMMI 18/003, which outlines approved qualifications for migration agents, will sunset on 1 April 2026.
To replace it, a new instrument is being prepared — listing approved courses, training, and exams that meet modern Australian migration law standards.

.

🎓 Why the Change?

The old rules (from 2018) need to keep up with changing laws and the complexities of Australian migration policy.
The aim is to ensure that registered migration agents have up-to-date knowledge, skills, and ethical standards to help clients with immigration advice.
This will boost trust and integrity in Australia’s migration advice industry.

🧐 What Does This Mean for Students & Agents?

👉 If you’re already studying:

Check that your institution plans to submit an EOI to have its migration agent program reassessed and included in the new approved list.
Only approved courses under the new instrument will qualify graduates for registration as a migration agent.

👉 If you want to become a migration agent:

Make sure your chosen university or college’s program is on the new approved list — or your qualification may not count!

👉 For education providers:

EOIs are now open — you must submit your proposal by 4 August 2025.
