Want a Canada PR in 2025? Here’s How the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) Can Help You

If you’re planning to get your Canada Permanent Residency (PR) in 2025 — whether you’re already in Canada or still outside the country — this post is for you!

Today, I’m breaking down the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) step by step. You’ll learn what it is, who can apply, what you need, and how you can move to Canada through this special pathway. So, grab your notepad — let’s get you closer to your Canada PR dream!

.

🌊 What Exactly is the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)?

Let’s keep it simple. The Atlantic Immigration Program (or AIP) is a special PR pathway for four provinces in Canada’s Atlantic region:

New Brunswick
Nova Scotia
Newfoundland and Labrador
Prince Edward Island

Think of it like a VIP shortcut to PR — but only for these provinces. Unlike other streams, the AIP has a high success rate if you follow the rules. Rejection chances are very low when you tick all the boxes. That’s why so many newcomers love this program!

.

✅ Who Can Apply for the AIP?

Good question. The AIP is open to people inside or outside Canada, but the requirements are slightly different.

🔹 If you’re outside Canada:

You need at least one year (1,560 hours) of paid work experience in the last 5 years.
The job must match your National Occupational Classification (NOC) code.

🔹 If you studied in Canada:
Good news! If you graduated from a college or university in one of the Atlantic provinces, you don’t need that work experience to qualify. Your local study experience counts.

.

📜 Key Documents You Need

Before you apply, you’ll need a few important documents ready:

1️⃣ Educational Credential Assessment (ECA):
If you studied outside Canada, you must get your degree assessed — for example, using WES (World Education Services). This shows Canada what your degree equals here.

2️⃣ Language Test:
You’ll need an approved English test — usually IELTS or CELPIP. The required scores depend on your job’s skill level (your NOC tier). Generally:

Tier 0–3: CLB 5
Tier 4–5: CLB 4

3️⃣ Proof of Funds:
If you’re outside Canada, you must show that you have enough money to settle. If you’re already working in Canada, your pay stubs may cover this.

4️⃣ Job Offer:
You must have a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a designated employer. The employer must have an AIP designation number. If they don’t, they can apply to become designated — so don’t be shy to ask!

.

📌 Very Important: Your Job Must Match Your Work Experience

This part trips people up!

Let’s say you have experience as a sheet metal worker (a skilled trade, usually Tier 2). If you get a job offer as a warehouse helper (often Tier 5), it won’t match. Your job must be in the same NOC category or skill level as your past experience.

So, always check your NOC code and make sure your job offer lines up!

.

🗂️ How to Apply for the AIP

Once you have your job offer from a designated employer:
1️⃣ They’ll apply to endorse you under the AIP.
2️⃣ You’ll receive an endorsement letter and an invitation to apply for PR.
3️⃣ You submit your application and documents.

Most applicants get a decision within 6–8 months, which is fast compared to other programs!

.

📍 A Few Extra Tips

✔️ You must live in the Atlantic province that supports your AIP for at least 6 months — so be ready to settle there, not elsewhere.

✔️ If you’re outside Canada, you’ll likely need a work permit first.

✔️ The program is expected to open in January 2025, so now is the time to start preparing!
