If Canada has been your dream destination, this guide is not by accident. In 2026, Canada continues to run a powerful pathway to permanent residence (PR), especially for international workers with job offers in its Atlantic provinces. This program is called:
👉 The Atlantic Immigration Program — AIP
Today, I’m going to walk you through:
Stick with me till the end — because this guide could change your life.
🇨🇦 What Is the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)?
The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a federal Canadian immigration pathway. It allows skilled foreign workers and international graduates to move to one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces and become permanent residents.
The Atlantic provinces are:
✔ New Brunswick
✔ Nova Scotia
✔ Newfoundland and Labrador
✔ Prince Edward Island (PEI)
Unlike temporary work visa programs, the AIP is designed to fast-track PR — but there’s a key condition:
👉 You must have a job offer from a designated employer.
And not just any job offer — it must meet program requirements and be endorsed by the province.
💼 Why Canada Created the AIP
Canada created the AIP because:
✔ Many employers in Atlantic Canada cannot fill job vacancies locally
✔ The population is aging, meaning more workers are needed
✔ Employers need foreign talent to grow their businesses
The Atlantic provinces partnered with the federal government to create a program that:
1️⃣ Skilled Foreign Workers
2️⃣ International Graduates
You can apply from inside or outside Canada, but you must have:
✔ A valid full-time job offer from a designated employer
✔ The job offer endorsed by a provincial government
✔ Required education and work experience
✔ Proof of language ability (CLB 5 or CLB 4 depending on job level)
✔ Enough settlement funds
🛠️ How the AIP Process Works (Step-by-Step)
Here’s the exact flow from start to finish:
✅ Step 1 — Get a Job Offer
Apply to employers designated under AIP in Atlantic Canada.
✅ Step 2 — Settlement Plan
Once you have a job offer, you create a settlement plan with help from settlement services.
✅ Step 3 — Provincial Endorsement
Your employer applies to the province for endorsement.
✅ Step 4 — Apply for PR
With your endorsement, submit your PR application to IRCC along with required documents
Optional — Temporary Work Permit
While your PR application is processing, you may apply for a temporary work permit to start working in Canada immediately
✅ Step 5 — Receive Permanent Residence
Once approved:
💼 Requirements to Succeed in AIP
To succeed in AIP, you must have:
✔ A job offer from a designated Atlantic employer
✔ Your offer endorsed by the province
✔ CLB language requirement (usually CLB 5, depending on job level)
✔ Education and work experience matching your job
✔ Enough settlement funds (unless already working in Canada)
Important: Jobs must be full-time and non-seasonal
📍 Designated Employer List — What It Is
Designated employers are companies approved by provinces to hire foreign workers under AIP.
Example: Prince Edward Island
PEI has 364 designated employers on its 2025 list, covering sectors like:
Being on the list doesn’t guarantee hiring — check active vacancies first
Other Provinces
AIP is one of the simplest and fastest PR routes for skilled workers — if you follow the steps correctly
