Applications are now open for the prestigious British Council UK 90th Anniversary Fellowship 2026 at the University of Edinburgh. This fully funded fellowship is designed for international scholars passionate about advancing research and fostering cultural exchange.

Celebrating 90 years of impactful work, the British Council has partnered with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh to offer this transformative program. The fellowship spans 12 months, starting in January 2026, with participants spending 10 months in Edinburgh and the final two months collaborating with the British Council in their home countries.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

Be citizens of an ODA-recipient country (see the full list below).
Hold a doctorate degree by the time of application.
Those with career breaks (e.g., parental leave) may still apply if they provide supporting details.
Have completed their doctorate between 2018 and 2025 (exceptions made for significant career breaks).
Not hold a permanent academic position at a university.
Provide evidence of having successfully defended their thesis if they haven’t officially graduated.
